This story continues with Rexie the golden T-Rex and Marlo the mosasaurus. They had just left the Mariana Trench and decided to visit somewhere more cheerful and sunny. As they lay on the sandy beach, they overheard a group of kingfishers chatting.
“Has anyone been to Atlantis, the lost city under the sea?” chirped one. “Legend says it’s filled with treasures!” Another replied, “Don’t be silly! We can only dive to catch fish, not visit underwater cities!”
Rexie and Marlo exchanged excited glances. Atlantis! A city under the sea! It sounded like the perfect adventure.
“We have to find it, Marlo!” Rexie exclaimed, already imagining swimming through the grand underwater streets. Marlo, equally enthusiastic, nodded. “Let’s go!”
Their journey began immediately. They started by asking the local sea creatures. First, they approached a massive swarm of krill.
“Excuse me,” Rexie boomed, “have you heard of a city called Atlantis?”
The krill, startled, scattered. “Atlantis?” squeaked one. “What’s Atlantis? We’re too busy eating and avoiding being eaten ourselves!”
Disappointed, Rexie and Marlo swam further and encountered a pod of killer whales. “Oh, mighty orcas! Do you know the way to Atlantis?” Marlo called out.
The killer whales surfaced. “Atlantis?” the leader replied. “We only care about hunting sharks! Have you seen any juicy sharks around?”
Rexie and Marlo sighed. They needed someone who had more life experience.
Finally, they reached a quiet cove where a giant clam rested on the seabed. Rexie carefully approached. “Great Clam,” he said respectfully, “we are searching for the lost city of Atlantis. Have you heard of it?”
The clam slowly opened its shell. “Atlantis,” it murmured. “Yes, I have heard whispers of it when I was but a young clam. It is a magnificent city, swallowed by the sea long ago. Legend says it lies far to the west, where the sun kisses the water goodnight.”
“Thank you, wise Clam!” Rexie and Marlo exclaimed. They had their first real clue!
Following the direction of the setting sun, they began their adventure. They travelled for many weeks and the waters grew darker and colder, and all sea life seemed to have disappeared. They were starting to lose hope of finding Atlantis when they saw a single, bright ray of light piercing the darkness of the deep ocean. “What’s that?” Rexie whispered, nudging Marlo.
Cautiously and excitedly, they swam towards the light, their hearts pounding with anticipation. Could it be Atlantis?
As they got closer, the light source became clearer. It was an anglerfish!

Anglerfish are deep-sea fish that have a special “fishing rod” on their heads. At the end of the rod is a light that glows, kind of like a little lightbulb. This light attracts other fish, who think it’s a tasty snack. When the other fish get close enough, SNAP! The anglerfish gobbles them up.
The fish, with its glowing lure, looked just as surprised to see them as they were to see it. “Hello!” Rexie called out. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Lumi,” the anglerfish replied nervously. “And I just came from over there,” he gestured with his head. “I think, I think I saw Atlantis!”
“Atlantis!” Rexie and Marlo exclaimed in unison. “You found it? Why didn’t you go in?”
Lumi shivered. “I was scared,” he admitted. “It looked so big and I was all alone.”
Rexie and Marlo exchanged a look. “You don’t have to be alone any more, Lumi!” Rexie said. “We’re looking for Atlantis too! Why don’t you join us? Your light could help us see in the dark!”
Lumi’s lure pulsed with excitement. “Really? You mean it? I’d love to!”
And so, the three friends, Rexie, Marlo, and Lumi, set off together, hopeful and excited. Lumi, with his glowing lure, illuminated their path through the dark depths, guiding them towards the lost city of Atlantis. They knew, deep down, that their adventure was about to get even more amazing.
