Masher and Suri were swimming in the super dark part of the ocean, far below where any sunlight could reach. It was so dark, only glowy fish lit the way. Suddenly, Suri pointed. “Masher, look!”

There, on the sandy bottom, were a bunch of huge, round eggs. “Whoa!” Masher said. “Eggs? Down here? That’s really weird!”

Suri wiggled his head. “You’re right. Nobody lays eggs this deep… except maybe…”

A crab scuttled by. “Are these yours?” Masher asked.

The crab laughed. “Mine are tiny! These are gigantic! No way!” And he scurried off.

“Hmm,” Masher said. “Still no clue.”

Just then, a dolphin swam up, all sneaky-like. “Oh! My eggs!” she said, trying to sound excited.

Suri looked at her. “Wait a minute… dolphins don’t lay eggs!”

The dolphin looked surprised. “Uh… yeah… I… um… I meant… I… give birth to babies! Oops!” She looked embarrassed and quickly swam away.

Masher shook his head. “That was a weird trick!”

Just when they were about to give up, a green sea turtle named Tutu swam over, looking really worried. “Oh no! My eggs!” she cried.

Masher frowned. “Tutu, are these your eggs?”

Tutu nodded sadly. “Yes! I didn’t know where else to put them!”

Suri’s tentacles drooped. “Tutu, sea turtles lay eggs on the beach, in the sand! Not in the ocean!”

Tutu’s eyes got big. “I didn’t know! What do I do now?”

Masher smiled. “Don’t worry, Tutu! We’ll help!”

Carefully, Suri used his long tentacles to pick up the big eggs. Masher helped Tutu swim towards the shore. They went all the way to a quiet beach with soft, white sand, perfect for a turtle nest.

“This is where you need to put your eggs,” Suri said. “Sea turtles always come back to the same beach where they were born to lay their own eggs. They usually do it at night, under the moon, so it’s nice and dark and cool. It’s a lot of work!”

Tutu nodded, understanding now. She crawled slowly and heavily onto the beach. It took a lot of effort! She dug a deep, round hole in the sand with her flippers. It was hard work! Then, she gently placed the big, round eggs inside. She laid hundreds of them! After she was finished, she carefully covered the hole with sand, patting it down so it was nice and smooth. Then, exhausted, she slowly made her way back to the ocean.

The Megalodon and the Giant Squid: The Mystery of the Deep-Sea Eggs

A few weeks later, Masher and Suri came back to the beach. The moon was shining brightly. Suddenly, the sand started to move!

CRACK! CRACK!

Tiny baby turtles popped out of their shells! They wiggled their little flippers and scrambled out of the nest. They knew they had to get to the ocean fast! Baby turtles are very small and lots of animals, like birds and crabs, want to eat them. It’s a dangerous journey to the sea!

“They’re hatching!” Suri whispered.

Masher watched the baby turtles struggle through the sand, holding his breath every time a hungry crab scuttled too close. Some of them got turned around, but they kept trying. They were driven by instinct to reach the ocean. Finally, they reached the waves and disappeared into the sea.

He looked at Tutu, who was smiling. “You did it, Tutu!”

Tutu smiled back. “Thanks to you two!”

As the last baby turtle paddled into the ocean, Masher, Suri, and Tutu floated in the water.

Suri giggled. “That was the best mystery ever!”

Masher grinned. “Yeah! And the cutest!”

Then, they swam off into the night, ready for their next adventure.

The End.
