One calm evening, as the sun painted the ocean in shades of orange and pink, Masher and Suri floated near the surface, watching the waves roll gently by.

“Remember that strange thing we saw the other day?” Masher asked, his giant tail swishing slowly.

Suri blinked his big eyes. “The thing that floated on top of the water? With creatures walking on it?”

“Yeah,” Masher said, unable to keep the curiosity out of his voice. “I want to take a closer look.”

Suri hesitated, his tentacles curling nervously. “I don’t know… things from the surface are usually trouble.”

Masher grinned, already turning toward the horizon. “Come on, just a peek!”

Together, they swam toward the horizon, following the faint hum of something moving above the water. Soon, they spotted it: a large fishing boat, its lights glowing in the darkening sky. Ropes hung over the sides, and a massive net dragged through the water, scooping up fish by the thousands. Its engines hummed a low, steady rumble that carried for miles through the still water.

“Look at all those fish trapped inside,” Suri said, curling a tentacle. “They’re taking everything!”

Masher narrowed his eyes. “Let’s get a closer look.”

He swam alongside the boat, his huge shadow gliding underneath. Suri trailed behind, his long arms waving gently, glancing nervously up at the hull looming over them. Just as they got close, the boat’s engines roared.

RRRRRRRR!

Before they could react, the net dropped deeper, wrapping around them both in a tangled mess of ropes and struggling fish. Masher could feel dozens of small fish bumping against his flanks, all as trapped and confused as he was.

SWISH! SWIRL! TUG!

“Uh-oh!” Masher thrashed, but the more he moved, the tighter the net squeezed. “I’m stuck!”

Suri’s tentacles flailed as he tried to wiggle free. “Me too!”

Bitey and Squiddy : Caught by the Fishermen

Suddenly, they were being pulled upward. With a loud SPLASH!, they broke through the surface, dripping with water and fish flopping everywhere. They found themselves staring up at a group of wide-eyed fishermen.

“Whoa!” one of the fishermen shouted, dropping his net in shock. “What in the world is THAT?!”

“It’s a monster!” yelled another, scrambling back and knocking over a bucket of fish.

Masher blinked at them, his enormous teeth gleaming in the boat’s light. “Uh… hi?”

Suri waved a tentacle awkwardly. “Nice boat?”

The fishermen stood frozen, staring in disbelief, none of them quite sure whether to run or keep staring. One of them slowly reached for something: a harpoon!

“We have to get out of here!” Suri whispered urgently.

“On it!” Masher roared and thrashed his tail with all his strength. WHOOSH! The boat rocked violently, sending the fishermen stumbling and the harpoon clattering across the deck. Suri wrapped his tentacles around the net and RIP! tore it apart with a mighty pull.

With a final SWOOSH, they both plunged back into the ocean, free at last, the torn net drifting away behind them.

As they swam far away, Masher huffed, “Okay… maybe that wasn’t the best idea.”

Suri sighed, still shaking a stray bit of rope from one tentacle. “I told you things from the surface were trouble!”

Masher chuckled. “Yeah, yeah. Next time, let’s stick to exploring the deep!”

With that, they disappeared into the dark waters, leaving the frightened fishermen behind with a story they would never forget: the night a monster and a sea beast got tangled in their net, and neither one of them turned out to be quite what they seemed.

The End.
