One bright morning in the ancient ocean, Masher the Megalodon swam near the surface, his giant fins cutting through the waves with a WHOOSH! The sun’s golden rays danced on the water, and schools of fish scattered as he passed, darting into every crevice they could find.
Today was a special day: his deep-sea friend, Suri the Giant Squid, had finally come to visit the shallows!
With a swirl of tentacles, Suri rose from the dark depths. SWISH! His large eyes blinked at the sunlight filtering through the waves. “It’s so bright up here!” he said, waving his long arms, still squinting against the glare after a lifetime in the dark.
“You’ll get used to it,” Masher rumbled with a grin. “Come on, my friends are waiting. It’s time to hunt!”
Masher led the way, and soon they reached a rocky island where sea lions lounged on the cliffs, barking and splashing into the water. His shark friends were already circling below, their tails flicking in excitement, their sleek grey bodies weaving in and out of the sunbeams that pierced the shallows.
One of them, a sleek, sharp-toothed shark named Razor, called out, “Hey, Masher! Who’s the wiggly guy?”
“This is Suri,” Masher introduced proudly. “He’s from the deep sea!”
Suri puffed up a little, waving a tentacle in greeting. “Nice to meet you!”
The sharks chuckled, but they were too focused on their hunt to chat for long. They crept closer to the sea lions, their bodies gliding silently through the water. Suri watched carefully, staying near Masher. He wasn’t used to hunting in such bright, busy waters, and he found himself wondering how anyone could sneak up on anything when the whole ocean was lit up like this.
Just as the sharks were about to strike, a chilling sound echoed through the water.
CLICK-CLICK-CLICK! WHOOOOOOOSH!
Masher froze. He knew that sound. “Orcas!” he growled.
Out of nowhere, a pod of massive black-and-white orcas surged toward them. Their sleek bodies sliced through the waves, their eyes locked onto the sharks. The lead orca let out a sharp whistle, and suddenly, the sea lions darted away, safe from the sharks’ jaws.
“Time to go!” Razor yelled, turning quickly. The sharks scattered in every direction, bumping into one another in their panic, but the orcas were fast: too fast!
Masher snarled and faced the lead orca. “This is our hunting ground!”
The orca clicked and whistled back. “Not today, big guy!”
The orcas charged, forcing the sharks to retreat. But Suri wasn’t going to run. SWOOSH! He shot a thick cloud of ink into the water, making everything dark and murky.
“Swim down!” Suri shouted.
Taking the chance, Masher and his friends dove into the deep, escaping the orcas’ reach. Behind them, the orcas circled once through the settling ink cloud, whistled to one another, and gave up the chase. When they were safe, Masher grinned at Suri. “Nice move! I guess deep-sea tricks work up here too.”
Suri chuckled, still catching his breath. “Told you there’s more to the ocean than hunting.”
Masher looked back toward the surface, watching the orcas swim away triumphantly. “We’ll let them have this one,” he said. “But next time, we’ll be ready!”
Razor swam up beside them, shaking the last of the ink from his fins. “Remind me never to hunt on a day your squid friend is visiting,” he said, and the other sharks laughed.
The sharks nodded, and together, they swam off, their tails swaying in the water, ready for whatever adventure came next.
The End.
